Biography

 

                   Jojo Lander ARCM, MA Music Therapy, FAMI


 I am a qualified Music Therapist and practitioner in the 'Helen Bonny Method of Guided Imagery in Music'. I continue to play the cello professionally with orchestras and ensembles throughout the UK.

Brought up and educated in Glasgow, I studied cello and piano at the Royal College of Music in London, winning a scholarship for further study with William Pleeth. 

I have been a member of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Allander Ensemble, Valrhona String Quartet and Spiked Cello Quartet. 

 

I hold a Masters Degree in Music Therapy, Fellowship of the Association of Music and Imagery (FAMI) to practice the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music (BMGIM), full PVG certification (Disclosure Scotland) and registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). 

Clinical practice involves using music and sound with people of all ages and abilities, facilitating educational development, physical and cognitive rehabilitation and person-centred therapy. I have experience in Special Needs Education, Mainstream Education, the NHS and private practice. Music therapy clients include babies, children, young people and adults of all abilities with:

  • Multi-Sensory Impairment
  • Autistic Spectrum Disorder 
  • Social, Emotional and Behaviour Difficulties
  • Severe Learning Difficulties
  • Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties
  • Dementia
  • Neurological injury
  • Physical trauma
  • Mental health issues
  • Long-term and life-limiting conditions
  • Grief and Bereavement
  • Complex and challenging circumstances

From 2008 to 2011 I held the post of Music Therapist at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust in Liverpool, working within the Psychological Services Department, Oncology Unit, Head Injury and Neuro-Rehabilitation Teams, the residential unit for young people with mental health issues, Alder Hey Arts and a range of multi-disciplinary teams throughout the trust. My role also involved devising and leading mentorship projects with professional Musicians, Allied Health Professionals and Hospital Play Specialists. 

Music Therapy experience also includes working with children and adults at SenseScotland, The Beatson Cancer Charity, Integrating Children's Services, NHS Lanarkshire and with adults with dementia at Methodist Homes Association.

I am a practitioner in the 'Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music' (BMGIM) and individual therapy sessions are available privately in South Lanarkshire, Glasgow, or in your own home.
